Silver Spring, MD – October 8, 2012 – The Food & Drug Administration has awarded a contract to Laisar Management Group, LLC for technical assistance for tobacco retail compliance inspections for the Center for Tobacco Products, Office of Compliance and Enforcement.

The FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) was established by the Tobacco Control Act. The Center’s Web site is CTP’s Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE) oversees enforcement of the Tobacco Control Act including provisions asserting jurisdiction over retail businesses selling tobacco products. The Tobacco Control Act directs FDA, where feasible, to contract with U.S. States and Territories to carry out inspections of tobacco product retailers within their jurisdictions on behalf of FDA to enforce the Tobacco Control Act and other federal tobacco provisions.  By September 30, 2011, FDA awarded tobacco retail compliance inspection contracts to 38 jurisdictions (37 states and the District of Columbia).  FDA is currently in the process of attempting to contract with the remaining 18 U.S. states and territories.
